BEWARE THE FAKES! Some stores (and some individuals) are selling other species “as” Marbled Crayfish. These are usually local-caught, or from Asia, and they may resemble the Marbled Crayfish – but will end up eating the other animals in your aquarium – and they are NOT clones, and will NOT have babies by themselves. BEWARE of low-price crayfish which claim to be Marbled Crayfish – MANY other species do resemble Marbled Crayfish, but are something else. BEWARE THE FAKES! There is a new wave of SCAMS claiming a “new BLUE Marbled Crayfish”. This is FAKE. All Marbled Crays naturally turn blue after they stop having babies and become “geriatric” crays, usually near daeth. Additionally, Marbled Crays will alter colors slightly due to specializes diets of spirulina and astaxanthin. However, there is no such thing as a “New Blue Variation” because true Marbled Crays have identical DNA and therefore identical color and markings.
